I was born in a two-room coal miner's shack in Coleman, Alberta, Canada. I learned my ABC's by coal-oil lamp and practiced my numbers and drawing stick people in the dust on a kitchen coal shovel, dreaming of becoming a fantastically famous artist or a brilliant lawyer. Life intervened along with a career, a wife, two children, and numerous cats until retirement in 2005.
My interest in art was rekindled with a call for local art to commemorate the centennial of the City of Brooks in August, 2010. I am self-taught, relying on books and the Internet. My interest and focus is in pencil sketching (graphite, carbon and charcoal), mainly representational art using a blended pencil technique. My subjects include historical art, nature scenes, portraiture, wildlife, fantasy and anything else that pops into my head. I draw for the joy that comes from reproducing the beauty, natural and manmade, that I find in this world, and for the challenge of reproducing it in graphite. Now I continue to practice my stick people under an energy-efficient light bulb, still dreaming of becoming a fantastically famous artist or a brilliant lawyer.
I was a founding member of the Sage Brush Arts club in Brooks, Alberta, and am currently a member of the Alberta Community Arts Clubs Association (ACACA), Crow Buttes Artists, and the facebook group Drawing: Black and White.. You can check out ACACA here.
For my other interests, hobbies, and past exhibits check me out on facebook.
